Despite a promise to its citizens that the city council would be diligently working over a 120-day period to draft an ordinance banning adult entertainment in public spaces, it appears backdoor meetings have resulted in a deal to continue drag performances in the presence of children in Bartlesville’s public venues.
City Attorney Jess Kane’s Fear of Litigation Leads Council to Break Promise to Citizens About Ordinance Banning Perverse Performances
As previously reported, Bartlesville City Attorney Jess Kane is more concerned with avoiding litigation than protecting the innocence of children in his community.
After being ordered by the city council to obtain outside counsel to assist in drafting an ordinance that reflects the will of the people concerning adult-oriented entertainment in public spaces, it is now evident that Jess Kane followed a different path (see pages 156-160 within council meeting packet).
It is clear that the citizens of Bartlesville were not engaged in the negotiations that brought forth this proposed agreement between the city and Oklahomans for Equality (OKEQ)-Bartlesville. It bears reminding that it was not the vast majority of Bartlesville’s residents who violated the longstanding legal and social agreements concerning what is and is not acceptable public behavior. It was OKEQ that did so. Yet now, OKEQ somehow has the insider and secret negotiating track with the city council and its attorney to the exclusion of the public.
Within the proposed agreement, Kane again acts as though he, OKEQ and the council members have not seen this video showing the nature of the drag performances in question and the willful misrepresentation of the nature of those performances by OKEQ-Bartlesville leadership:
Previously, Kane oddly surmised that since no arrests were made at OKEQ’s September pride event, no laws could’ve been broken. This publication has since explored the reasons why the Bartlesville Police Department may have failed to act as municipal and state laws concerning obscenity and the exposure of children to adult sexuality were clearly broken during the event’s drag performances.
And now, to avoid a potential lawsuit, the citizens of Bartlesville are to accept that OKEQ’s “vigorous denial” of any wrongdoing, despite evidence to the contrary, should be enough to allow public indecency to continue.
Jess Kane is cowering in the hope that the state legislature will soon decide this issue by passing HB 2186, keeping him and his political future safe from public attacks by the LGBT activists. What Kane does not seem to understand is that this proposed legislation at the state level will not pass unless municipalities like Bartlesville send a clear signal that public perversion will not be tolerated in their towns or in the presence of their children. Agreements of appeasement, as suggested by Kane, will be used as proof that Bartlesville supports and allows drag performances, anywhere, everywhere and in front of children.
Kane’s proposal would allow drag shows to continue within public buildings and provides no restrictions concerning children as attendees or the content of the performances. Apparently, exposure to adult sexuality no longer has a detrimental effect on healthy child development, as long as there’s a roof over the perversion.
Bartlesville City Council Sits in a Mess of Its Own Making and Has Some Serious Work to UNDO
Within this town and many others, no group has been more responsible for rolling out the red carpet for the activism of alternative sexualities than the city council. In a pattern of pressured appeasement, and with no documentation to show they are following their own mandated processes, the council has encouraged the behavior citizens are demanding be curtailed.
With history as proof, it seems OKEQ-Bartlesville can simply put in a request with the city council to do something they’ve never done before with no other input from the community and that request will be promptly granted. A city proclamation may seem like a harmless and inconsequential declaration by a city council, unless it is, unlike any other previous proclamation, based upon the adult sexual preferences of a small group within the community, who strangely demand that their alternative lifestyle be universally affirmed, celebrated and never questioned, no matter what behavior may follow.
Members of the city council have gone much further in their support for public festivals that celebrate alternative, adult sexualities. From the 2022 pride event:
No wonder the activists for alternative sexualities think they own Unity Square, this community’s most public venue. Year by year, city leaders cowered, clapped, proclaimed and posed for pictures as the OKEQ took possession of it. There’s no evidence in council records that any member ever suggested asking the bulk of the town’s citizens how they felt about the transfer.
One Council Member is Most Clearly Out-of-Step With Public Opinion
City council member Loren Roszel is a lifer at ConocoPhillips, where OKEQ-Bartlesville vice president Sheena Hayes works and founded the company’s Pride Employee Network.
It a town where many of the best jobs come from ConocoPhillips or related company Phillips 66, there’s a clear pressure to make employee politics mirror company politics.
Roszel is apparently also a fan of censorship, since average citizens can’t possibly be trusted with all of the information to consider and weigh in making personal health decisions:
He’s also a big supporter of festivals to celebrate a range of adult sexual attractions:
Judging by the comment on Roszel’s post (above), OKEQ-Bartlesville Pride 2022 drag performer Sky Hye Kye thinks Roszel is right on! No worries, Bartlesville. They assure us performers like Sky Hye Kye are always family friendly. You can be sure “there was no nudity, no obscenity and no sexually suggestive performances.”
If parents were to wish for someone inspirational to read books to their children at the library or school or perform for them in the town square, would it be this person?
In a bizarre logical lapse, councilman Roszel attempted to hide his obvious support for the performances at the pride event by claiming first amendment rights would be violated if obscenity in public were to be limited in any way. It appears the president of OKEQ-Bartlesville has Roszel onboard (see reply to post below).
And it appears Roszel’s spouse works for the Price Tower Arts Center in the building at the center of town all lit up with rainbow colors.
With OKEQ and other like organizations, it seems they get what they pressure for and your town gets what your city council won’t stand up against. It’s time for Bartlesville, Oklahoma and all of America to decide… is the innocence of children worth protecting? Some things are worth being sued over. In fact, lawsuits tend to bring complete and revealing transparency.
What’s a Concerned Citizen to Do?
Citizens of Bartlesville: Make your face seen and your voice heard at Monday’s city council meeting.
All Oklahomans: Contact your state senator directly and encourage him/her to support HB 2186.
It's a shame that the city council and school boards are falling for porn masquerading as legitimate "human rights" when this is such a small percentage of the population. Accommodating 7.2% of the population to the sacrifice of 92.8% of the population, misrepresents the community. Here's a quick reality check on the percentage of LGBQ ( https://news.gallup.com/poll/332522/percentage-americans-lgbt.aspx ).
Of course the truth is that not all LGs are drag queens. So you could responsibly say that even less that 7% is demanding to contaminate the rest of the population of Bartlesville with their minority behavior. Really? And that's normal? Even worse, that's what is sound behavior for the majority to be exposed to? Let's not even talk about the kids. Aren't we inundated enough these days with kids who are prematurely sexualized and their cry for justice for those who didn't have at least a modicum of filtering from minority-type sexualized behavior? We are ruining a whole generation of citizens for the sake of a minority. This is not how our country works, and it's not how to raise a generation of kids who will one day govern this country.
Do they not understand what a "Drag Queen" performance is? Probably not, because most of them have been going to work, paying attention to their own responsibilities and families, and not participating (or knowing) about 7.2% of what the population finds acceptable behavior. And what's worse is that they aren't really in favor of finding out what a drag queen performance is. Personally I don't blame them - I'm not interested either and I don't want a minority (yes, 7.2% is a minority) winning out to display bizarre behavior to most of the citizens in Bartlesville.
Such a sad commentary that the Bartlesville city council chooses a very small minority over the majority of the wishes of the community.
