Conservative Radio Host & Former State Senator Jake Merrick Announces Intent to Run for Governor
No PACs or Special Interest Funds for OK's Latest Gubernatorial Candidate
On the steps of the state capitol on Monday, former State Senator (R-Dist 22) and conservative radio host Jake Merrick announced his intention to file as a candidate for Oklahoma governor in April of 2026.
This morning, Merrick released a formal statement outlining his plan to reject PAC and special interest funds while focusing fully on issues important to Oklahomans.
“This campaign will be of, by, and for the people of Oklahoma,” Merrick declared. “I answer only to the citizens of this great state, and I will carry no obligations except to serve you.”

Merrick enters a field of four other Republican candidates including Mike Mazzei, Attorney General Gentner Drummond, former House Speaker Charles McCall and relative unknown Leisa Mitchell Haynes. Also declared as a candidate is House Minority Leader Cyndi Munson (D).
Among current candidates with notable name recognition, Merrick has opened up a new lane in the 2026 race with his strong alignment to grassroots issues, commitment to shrinking government and strengthening personal liberties, and pledge to avoid corrupting funds.
Merrick will continue his morning radio show on Freedom 96.9 until his official campaign is established next April.
